Week 7 All-Havoc Team
As always in the NFL, week 7 was highlighted by a lot of key defensive plays that either turned the tide or sealed the game for their teams. It just so happens that many of our All-Havoc defenders this week were at the center of those plays. Here's the All-Havoc defenders for week 7.
First Team All-Havoc
CB- Beanie Bishop Jr(1), Pittsburgh: The rookie makes his first appearance on All-Havoc this season by ranking number 1 in coverage among corners on 27 coverage snaps in week 7. He accounted for 6 tackles to go with his 2 interceptions against the Jets. Both interceptions came at critical times with the Sunday night affair against the Jets still in doubt. On the first one, he reached behind his body to pick off Aaron Rodgers and turn the momentum in a game the Steelers were trailing 15-6 and ultimately went on to win 37-15.
CB- Cobie Durant(1), LAR: Durant also recorded his first interception of the season on Sunday in the Rams 20-15 victory over the Raiders, in addition to forcing a fumble. Durant helped lead a Rams defense that picked off Gardner Minshew 3 times. Durants also had had a blitzing strip sack that led directly to a scoop and score touchdown by Cam Kurl that gave the Rams a 14-3 first half lead.
CB- Marlon Humphrey(3), Baltimore: Unlike the first two corners on this list, Humphrey is no stranger to the All-Havoc team, making his 3rd appearance this year. He spearheaded a Ravens defense that looked good until garbage time on Monday night. His 2 interceptions helped turn the tide on a game that the Bucs led 10-0 early before the Ravens rattled off 34 unanswered and ultimately won 41-31. His first interception came in the end zone with Buccaneers threatening to take their 2nd 10 point lead of the first half.
S- Nick Cross(1), Indianapolis: Cross had 9 tackles in the Colts-Dolphins defensive struggle that the Colts prevailed in by a score of 16-10. Cross finished week 7 second among safeties in run support while also finishing sixth in coverage Havoc. He was joined by two secondary teammates that made 2nd team All-Havoc this week, which may be more of an indictment on the Dolphins non-Tua passing attack that managed just 149 yards between Tim Boyle and Tyler Huntley.
S- Jaylen McCollough(1), LAR: Another member of the Rams secondary checks in as the last member of our first team All-Havoc secondary. He had the other two Rams interceptions of Minshew. His second, of which, sealed the victory for the Rams when he grabbed a desperation heave with Minshew on the run trailing by just 5 with 1:18 remaining. He didn’t do much against the run, but McCollough led all safeties in coverage Havoc in week 7.
LB- Roquan Smith(2), Baltimore: Smith was a tackle machine on Monday night against Tampa Bay, accounting for 18 total tackles, 11 of them solo. Smith was top 5 in both run stopping and coverage Havoc among linebackers in week 7, landing the top spot in the latter. Smith was seemingly all over the field in the secondary patrolling the middle and stopping easy completions for the Bucs offense.
LB- Cody Barton(1), Denver: Barton was a menace against the Saints on Thursday Night Football accounting for 8 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery for a 52-yard touchdown after a Jaquan McMillian strip sack. The game was already in hand when he scored the touchdown, but earlier in the game he had a strip sack of his own when the Broncos only led 3-0. Barton was second among linebackers in pass rush Havoc and 6th in coverage Havoc in week 7.
ED- Andrew Van Ginkel(1), Minnesota: Van Ginkel had 7 tackles, 2 sacks and forced a fumble despite the Vikings coming up short to the Lions on Sunday. He was number 1 in pass rush Havoc and 3rd in coverage havoc among edges this week, using his versatility to help the blitz happy Minnesota defense. It was a high scoring affair with some key defensive plays but ultimately the Lions prevailed. The two teams will meet again in week 18, which could be for all the NFC North marbles, unless Green Bay has something to say about it.
ED- Sam Hubbard(2), Cincinnatti: Don’t look now, but after an 0-3 start, the Bengals are now 3-4 and looking to make another playoff push in the AFC, which has really good teams at the top of each division, but question marks for all the wild card spots. Hubbard led the Bengals defense against Cleveland with a sack and an interception. He led all edges in coverage Havoc and was 7th in pass rush Havoc in week 7 for a Bengals defense who desperately needed the production up front.
DT- Dexter Lawrence(2), NYG: The monster that is Dexter Lawrence makes an All-Havoc team for a second time this week. At 340 lbs, Lawrence now has 9 sacks on the season after accounting for 2 more against Philadelphia on Sunday. He was the number one defensive tackle in pass rush Havoc in week 7, along with being top 30 against the run. Lawrence is a true freak on the inside and showed it again this week.
DT- Tim Settle(1), Houston: Settle had 4 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and a sack this week. Settle was 5th in pass rush Havoc and top 15 against the run in week 7. Houston uses the big man inside to free up Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson jr. on the edges, but this week he was able to get in on the action and make plays for himself against the Packers, recording his first sack since he had 2 in week 3 against Minnesota.
