Thursday Night Football Best Bets Week 9
Both these teams came into the year with high expectations. The Texans had ascending star C.J. Stroud at quarterback and an improving defense on a team that won a playoff game a year ago. The Jets were finally going to get to see hall of fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers lead their offense. As it turns out, only one had real reason for optimism and that was the Texans. Houston enters Thursday night at 6-2 in New York against a 2-6 Jets team. Peculiarly though, the Jets are favored in the game. Here are some picks we like this Thursday night.
C.J. Stroud under 223.4 Pass yards: As promising as Stroud is, his road splits have left something to be desired. In 4 road games this season, he's thrown for just 727 yards, almost 500 less than his total in 4 home games. Couple that with the fact that he's missing his top 2 targets, and facing a Jets secondary that still has plenty of talent, and we'll take the Stroud under in this one.
Texans/Jets Under 42.5 Total Points: Both teams are likely to try to use the ground game to their advantage on Thursday night. The Texans who just lost Stefon Diggs for the season and are still without Nico Collins would love nothing more than to get a lead and control the game with Joe Mixon. The Jets will need to run the ball to slow down the Texans pass rush and give Aaron Rodgers a chance. We expect it to be a quick game and go under the total tonight.
Breece Hall Over 30.5 Receiving yards: The Texans have struggled in underneath coverage and Hall is one of the best receiving backs in the game. We project Hall 4.2 percent over his receiving total in this one and his ability to break one in the screen game is almost unparalleled in the NFL today. We'll take him over in receiving tonight.
