Let's face it. Almost any QB list you look at in 2024 is going to have Patrick Mahomes at #1, the NFL's top 100 not withstanding. Keep in mind that Threat ratings are a statistically based metric that may take out some qualitative analysis, good or bad. However, our Threat Ratings for Quarterbacks do look at actual production on the field with an eye on deep playoff runs and winning as well. With all that in mind, here are our top 10 quarterbacks for 2024 according to Field Vision's Threat Ratings.

Josh Allen (Bills): Threat Ratings- 99 (1st)

Josh Allen comes in as Field Vision’s top quarterback in Threat Rating in large part due to his dual threat ability. He’s 4th in passing only Threat and 2nd in overall rushing Threat. Allen also ranks top 6 in the league throwing to all Field areas and 1st against the blitz and against man coverage. The Bills, more than any other team, rely on Allen to be superman to keep them in games. With the departure of Stefon Diggs this off-season, he may need to put on the cape even more in 2024.

Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs): Threat Rating- 97.6 (2nd)

On lists like these, Patrick Mahomes is pretty much everyone’s number 1 right now, but through the lens of on field production, he came just shy of Allen for 2024 Threat. Mahomes ranks number 1 in passing only Threat Rating and 2nd in both the short and intermediate part of the field. He’s also our number 1 quarterback when facing no blitz and against zone coverage. Given the production, coupled with playoff-pedigree and clutchness, we still think Mahomes is the QB you want with the game on the line and the Chiefs hope that holds true as they go for a 3-peat in 2024.

Dak Prescott (Cowboys): Threat Rating- 94.8 (3rd)

Dak Prescott still needs to win some playoff games, but his regular season production was off the charts last season. Prescott enters 2024 3rd in overall passing Threat and ranks in the top 6 in all 3 areas of the field. He is also top 4 both against the blitz and when facing no blitz. Prescott ranks top 5 in passing Threat against both zone and man coverage and is 3rd overall in straight drop backs. With his contract situation up in the air, there’s no doubt Prescott will likely produce this regular season. However, if he wants to stay a Cowboy, it will come down to this season’s playoffs.

Jared Goff (Lions): Threat Rating- 91.6 (4th)

Jared Goff comes in 4th in our overall QB Threat ratings. This may seem high but he is number 1 in the league in Threat on throws both short and intermediate. He’s just middle of the pack on deep throws at 16th, but he ranks 2nd in the NFL against the Blitz. Goff adds nothing with his legs, but he is top 7 in passing threat against both zone and man defense. With the Lions going to the NFC Championship game a year ago, it’s becoming clear that they are not just winning despite Jared Goff, but in many cases, because of him.

Jalen Hurts (Eagles): Threat Rating- 87.3 (5th)

Jalen Hurts is our first QB since Allen at 1 that does a lot of his damage on the ground. However, Hurts ranks 7th in overall Passing only Threat. Couple that with his 4th overall Rushing Threat rating for QB’s and Hurts is a dangerous weapon for the Eagles. We all know the “Tush-push” is unstoppable, but the Eagles are great pushing the ball down the field and Hurts is top 11 against both zone and man coverage. The Eagles will need Hurts to return to 2022 passing form to have the season they want in 2024.

Lamar Jackson (Ravens): Threat Rating- 85.9 (6th)

Lamar Jackson comes in at #6 in our overall QB Threat, but not surprisingly, he is our number 1 overall Rushing Quarterback ranking first in designed runs and 3rd in scrambles. Jackson also excels in play-action as our 4th best play-action pass Quarterback. In terms of passing, Jackson is top 10 in the intermediate part of the field, but struggles more on short and deep passing. The Ravens have built a system that works great with Jackson’s skill set and it shows with his 2 MVP awards. They’ll need another similar season to capture the 1-seed in the AFC again.

C.J. Stroud (Texans): Threat Rating- 85.8 (7th)

C.J. Stroud was a revelation in his rookie season. He enters 2024 as our #1 Deep Threat quarterback in the NFL. He’s also our 3rd best Quarterback against zone coverage and 9th in both basic drop backs and play-action passes. Stroud is middle of the pack in rushing Threat, but does a nice job avoiding pressure and throwing down field. Stroud and the Texans have a plethora of weapons this season and they’ll be looking to replicate last years success and then some in 2024.

Trevor Lawrence (Jaguars): Threat Rating- 85.6 (8th)

Trevor Lawrence signed a big extension this off season and the Jaguars will be looking for him to take another step forward in 2024. Lawrence is 9th in overall rushing Threat among QB’s and 11th in overall passing Threat. He uses his mobility to avoid the rush and is rated as our 6th best scrambler heading into 2024. Lawrence excels on short and deep throws but struggles in the intermediate part of the field. He also does much better when not blitzed ranking 5th in Threat in those situations. The Jaguars need Lawrence to improve if they’re going to be considered true contenders in the AFC.

Brock Purdy (49ers): Threat Ratings- 85.2 (9th)

Brock Purdy doesn’t have the pedigree or expectations of Lawrence above him, but with his roster in San Francisco there’s no doubt he’s leading a true contender. Purdy is top 7 in the league in both deep and intermediate passing and ranks only 18th on short throws, dispelling the myth that he just dumps it off and his play makers do everything. He also ranks top 5 in the league against the Blitz making it hard to speed up the 49ers offense. Purdy doesn’t have to be great for the 49ers to be excel, but he’s a lot closer to it than most fans think.

Justin Herbert (Chargers): Threat Rating- 84.8 (10th)

Justin Herbert gets a new coach and a new approach in 2024. He lost a lot of weapons, but the Chargers will rely on the running game and physicality and look for Herbert to make big plays where needed. He heads in to 2024 4th in Threat rate against Man Coverage and top 10 in scrambling. Whether the Chargers have changed their philosophy or not, They’ll need Herbert to be what everyone expects to have the success they want in Jim Harbaugh’s first year.
